The Beaufort County Economic Development Corporation (BCEDC) is proud to announce that Kelli Brunson, Interim Executive Director, has successfully completed the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute (OU EDI), a nationally recognized professional development program for economic development practitioners.

Brunson’s participation in the program was made possible through the 2025 Sloan W. Gable Scholarship, awarded by the South Carolina Economic Developers Association (SCEDA). The scholarship recognizes promising economic development professionals in South Carolina and supports continued education and professional growth.

OU EDI is an intensive, 117-hour certificate program that provides advanced training in the many disciplines of economic development. The curriculum covers key areas including business retention and expansion, real estate development, credit analysis, strategic planning, marketing and business attraction, entrepreneurship, and managing economic development organizations. The program is aligned with the International Economic Development Council’s (IEDC) professional development standards.

“OU EDI strengthened my understanding of the many factors that influence economic growth and community competitiveness. I’m grateful to SCEDA for investing in my professional development and providing the opportunity to complete this program. I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned as we continue working to attract investment, support existing businesses, and create quality job opportunities throughout Beaufort County.” – Kelli Brunson, Interim Executive Director

Professional development remains an important part of BCEDC’s commitment to advancing economic development throughout Beaufort County. The knowledge and relationships gained through OU EDI will further support the organization’s efforts to strengthen the local business environment, diversify the economy, and position Beaufort County for long-term economic success.
